Schindler’s Factory

The former enamelware works on Lipowa Street, now a museum of Kraków under occupation.

The works at Lipowa 4 were taken over in 1939 by Oskar Schindler, a German industrialist who employed Jewish workers there from the ghetto and later from the camp at Płaszów. The story became widely known through Thomas Keneally’s book and Steven Spielberg’s film.

The former administrative building now houses a branch of the Museum of Kraków with the exhibition Kraków under Nazi Occupation 1939–1945. It covers not only the factory but the life of the whole city year by year, using reconstructed interiors and witness accounts. Schindler’s original office survives.

Tickets are sold for specific times and in season are often booked out several days ahead.
